NetOptions, a Datacom company, is pleased to announce it has made two strategic acquisitions in Queensland; of Townsville-based Sun Microsystems hardware specialist, Agire and Brisbane-based IT services firm, Syncroplex Systems.

The acquisitions coincide with NetOptions re-branding as Datacom Systems (Qld), which aligns the business with the Datacom brand regionally and reflects Queensland’s contribution to Datacom’s 27 percent compound annual growth in Australia/Asia. Acquiring Agire and Syncroplex gives Datacom a direct presence in North Queensland, and will increase Datacom’s combined annual Australia/Asia revenue by $10 million, to in excess of $145 million annually.

Agire provides software systems and services to customers including James Cook University, Townsville City Council and Parkside Holdings. The company’s Townsville presence complements Datacom’s existing Brisbane base and its team brings deep expertise in the Sun product set and Intel based hardware solutions. Syncroplex Systems is a systems engineering and development firm with specialist skills in network support and consulting to professional services organisations.

Datacom Queensland’s Managing Director, Clark Hobson, comments that the decision to acquire the two companies was based on the needs of existing customers as well as market opportunities.

“These acquisitions give Datacom broader geographic reach and a stronger offering. For instance, combining Datacom’s Wintel server expertise with Agire’s Sun hardware skills allows us to provide local customers with deeper technical proficiency in core and complementary technologies.”

Agire’s staff members have all transferred across to Datacom. Syncroplex’s staff will also be integrated with Datacom Queensland’s technology services team.

Since Datacom and NetOptions merged in 2005, the company has grown its Queensland team by 50 percent, from 46 to more than 70 staff, and has increased revenues by 30 percent. Key to this expansion has been leveraging Datacom’s broader services expertise in software development and managed infrastructure services for the benefit of Queensland customers.
